Poker is played on the premise that at least two or three people are participating in the game. It is up to the players for them to determine the strength of the hands that they are dealt and betting accordingly. The winner wins the pot of money that the collective players place as a bet.

Texas Holdem Poker

The simplest form of poker is Texas Holdem Poker, so if you’re a beginner, then it’s a truly great place to start. It came to prominence in the late 1970s when it was the centrepiece game at the World Poker Series tour. It’s essentially a seven-card version of the game, which serves as a basis for a fast and tactical game of cards. When the game starts, two cards are dealt face down to each player by the dealer. The player sitting to the dealer’s left puts down a small blind, which is a forced bet that is of a predetermined amount, whereas the player sitting next to him or her puts down a big blind. This is done to ensure that players play through the first round before upping the ante in the second. The following three rounds are called the “flop”, “turn” and “river” respectively. The flop involves three cards being laid down followed by betting, the turn involves one more card being laid down followed by betting, and the river involves yet another card being laid down followed by betting. Players then show their hands after the final round of betting, with the holder of the strongest five-card hand being the winner. If two players have the same hand, the pot is shared between them.
