Group A will be contested as ferociously as any other group this summer. Like Group B and Group C, picking a winner from this is not the most straightforward task, with this group being one of the closest groups in the competition. Below, we have gone through the sides in this group individually and given our thoughts on how the tournament could play out.
Germany
Germany are traditionally considered an enormous threat and will be the favourites to qualify from their group and one of the top Euro 2024 bets. By their extremely high standards, where only winning will suffice, the last few major tournaments for this German side have been very poor. Logic would tell you that sacking a manager months before a major tournament and the general bad form of the past few years would rule out this German side from doing anything special, but there are few things more dangerous than ruling against a German side.
Considering their footballing heritage, at every major football tournament Germany enters, the fans expect great odds for the team to win. This goes up several notches when you consider they are the host nation. They might no longer possess a team full of world-beaters, but they still have a side full of talent. Jamal Musiula is a sensational talent, and this could be the tournament where he shows everyone he is among the world's best.
Scotland
Scotland have now qualified for back-to-back European tournaments and were outstanding during the qualifying campaign. Scott McTominay, who plays for Manchester United in midfield, has scored multiple crucial goals for Scotland and would love nothing more than to do it on the grandest stage of them all. Villa midfielder John McGinn and Liverpool fullback Andy Robertson will need to be at their best if Scotland are going to achieve great things during this tournament. This time, reaching the knockout stages is a real possibility for this nation.
Hungary
Having gone 44 years without gaining a spot in this tournament’s finals since their fourth-place finish in 1972, Hungary has achieved a remarkable feat by qualifying for their third consecutive tournament. Their qualification was sealed with a 2-2 draw in Bulgaria. Despite finishing at the bottom of a challenging group that included France, Germany, and Portugal in the football summer tournament 2020, Hungary earned two points from three games.
Just in case anyone was thinking this might be an easy game for the others involved in this group, remember that it wasn't long ago they beat England 4-0 in England! It is results like these that this Hungary side can use to ensure they are full of confidence going into this tournament, and it makes you want to consider your football bet carefully.
Dominik Szoboszlai is their star player. He has settled in very well at Liverpool, and one feels he will need to be at his very best if he is to guide Hungary through this tournament.
Switzerland
During their qualifying group, which didn't contain a powerhouse nation, Switzerland finished second, losing only one game but drawing five. Their games contained only a few goals, too. This can be attributed to their need for more firepower in the squad. They have a core of good defensive players and a keeper, but they lack any natural attacking flair. Therefore, they do rely on keeping things tight at the back. They are capable of doing well in this tournament, as steady football is often the order of the day at major football tournaments.
Betsson Euro 2024 Group A Predictions
Despite having no real form to speak of, we are backing Germany to top the group. They are the hosts and still have this group's best team on paper. The following three teams are hard to separate. Hungary are likely to finish at the bottom of the group due to their lack of experience, and this will leave Scotland and Switzerland to battle it out, two teams who, in our opinion, have very equal sides.
